Writing under the influence: Monologue of the sober and the not so...

Just because...

Everything’s so loud right now. Holy fvcking sh1t! Did the Radioman just say “bloodbath?” I didn’t know they’re allowed to say that on the airwaves?
Why is the clock ticking so loud?
So when else can I hear the drum and bugle corps play at 4:31am?
Jimi Hendrix? Is that you whispering in my right ear? “This is our decision, to live fast and die young”?
The cocks have crow three times now. I hear a dialtone, a radio! So that’s where it’s from!
Should I even dare counting the kukadoodledoos?
When I turn off the lights should I be scared or should I be proud, 4:35 am!
Filtering.
I can’t even hear my father snore? There it is, my favorite rock-a-bye. I can almost picture my morning.
To the old gods and the new, please let me dream of Jim Morrison?
G’nyt!

How to stop chasing the dragon...

I don’t know where or how or… why I’m even bothering to think about this?
But… the heck!
23 years. Yes my life was a mess. I guess that’s practically why I am what I am today.
Imperfect, crazy (beautiful), demented, alive.

Every second of this terminal, I’ve always lived it either to the fullest, for granted, drunk, (occasionally, stoned [DAD!total farce, I tell you. TOTAL FARCE!]), lost, found, in love, angry, inspired, hungry, full, happy, stoked, basically all the other indiscriminate what-nots of being human.

Yep. BEING HUMAN. Probably the lamest excuse of what? …BEING HUMAN!

Because they were just being human when they kept the fact that I could’ve had ……… whatever!

Main thing is, I’m here. Right here. Contented (currently hungry for Matias bbq), happy, and always keeping tabs with the “kid in me”.

How to stop “chasing the dragon”? Nope, I don’t mean opium.
What I do mean by it is simple.

The dragon is a mythical creature told my kings and lords to their finest men and soldiers. In theory, whoever slays such beast is rewarded with gold, women, a castle and practically all the riches in the world. In the long run, the kings and lords remained as such, so were their soldiers. Castles were built, but no dragon was slain. Dragons by definition are mythical reptilian fire-breathing-winged beasts.
Mythical.

Stop chasing dragons, I tell you.
Now.
am I even making any sense here???

Random (a)

...after more than a month of unproductive hiatus, here goes.

Wooden Door.
Because when everyone dreams the same dream, reality becomes a catastrophe.
How can a mere little shadow on the wall mean so much so as to call it a ghost of an unforgotten unforgiven past?
The marks on the sand do not leave prints of prances and dances, the very echoes of those laughs and smiles remain.
When the clouds suggest rain and the shouts entail pain, the wooden door closes again.

Birth.
Does it not proclaim the very essence of life?
Whereas the other wither away, every birth is an invitation for us to stay.
Because when gallows of moonshine and pirate treasures are too much to bare.
The birth of life is always open to share.

Fountain pen.
Every unsung hero's only weapon.
To expose tyranny and promote selfless, unaccounted, unrequited liberty.
To wallow in the street paved with rats on Victorian gowns and peasant on muskets.
When what we know is a weapon and what we do not is a sick corrupted den, gun powder revolution cannot bring back lost men.

Morning breath.
The first signal of beating good old death.
The boatman who rides alone is not only in need of golden coin money.
He needs a woman by his side, to make the ride worth every penny.
Chiron's creaking little ferry, how is it that the boat still stands when you ship souls a thousand a plenty?

Tire swing.
Vertigo and the play of light.
Sometimes, when lucky, a view of the sun from the far side of the twilight.
Winters only wither your string, they make me lighter than the kids on the playground swing.
Tire swing, may you not tire of the joy you bring, to kids like me and the kids of spring.

The idiot on the background keeps poking my eyes.
He asks, "Where do you get all these stupid rhetorical guise?"
"Funny"
Retort.
"The abominable late bunny keeps track of my mundane sanity."

The truth behind pleasing everybody...

... is that you can NEVER (in a billion years) please them at all! Humans have always had that basic tinge in their DNA to pull others down. I mean, if you can't beat them in an argument, might as well correct their grammar, right? The primal need to win has been in our system even at the very moment of conception because, you know, we're technically the glorious champions in the race for our mom's gametes.

They say, life is a huge rat race and it's always up to the intensity of our cheats that'll pull us through, but for me, I guess I'll pass on the cheating and pleasing. Save myself from potential strain. If life truly is a race (of I don't know where to) then I guess I'll just have to enjoy the view, stop thinking about the finish line, take as many breather breaks as I can and finish the whole thing like the winner that I know I am. Life may be a race but it's not about losing or winning, it's about falling and rising again, sprinting and walking, breathing and gasping. Perhaps the only opponent we have here is time, so stop pleasing everybody, the more you do, the lesser time gets.

So, I digress. The truth behind pleasing everybody is a lie. Yes, you can't please everybody, but if you insist, then at least please everybody who matters.

Those who matter don't mind and those who mind don't matter. ~ Dr. Seuss

Fire from the East

Only a true phoenix is ever capable of taming the flame.

The prophecy. Those were the very words my late brother whispered unto my ears before the darkness took him. The feel of his warm breath still sends shivers up my spine even in memory. A true warrior he was. He led our people at a very young age of 16. A true King. But he was no flame tamer. He had the temper of a teaspoon. His bipolar eccentricities were his only flaws. He led our people, fought countless battles. But just hours before he died, the enemy continued forging their way from the South.

The Wildlings, our generals call them. A dominion of godless, merciless, spineless horde who once, collectively, dwelt among the forest of the vast Southern lands. It is said that to date, 5 years after Lerion's death, the wildlings have doubled their army. That the best we could do was not only to recruit and train boys of the fighting age of 16 but to build a fortress. A dozen league high wall with almost the same in width. That there is no hope for us when the beasts invade.

This is cowardice! Every inch of me bellowed.

This was not the same mentality my late brother has instilled upon our people. My brother was our strength. He was my strength. But he is not with us now. It has been as such for half a decade.

When the throne was passed, it came to me as a burden more than a gift. At the age of 18, I knew nothing about leading a city or war or life. But the years have scrapped every part of soul and it has taught me that war does not eradicate cowardice nor does it build up strength. War numbs you. Every part of your viscera. That sometimes death does not need blood be split but it always needs souls be emptied.

I have seen the faces of war. For years I have protected my people as an act of promise to the rulers before me. I have killed countless men, soldiers and I have died everyday since then. Five years I have led my soldiers against these so-called Wildings. The strongest armor, the sharpest swords, the thickest shield and the fastest horse were all my glamour. My true identity unknown.

I have won battles, never lost, but everyday has been defeat. There was no other way to destroy the enemy. The enemy that we've yet to see. Al Rodog.

At the age of 23, I sit on a throne paved with the purest of gold. At the age of 23, I have led battalions upon battalions of soldiers outside our city walls for battle. At the age of 23, I have been fighting a century old war with a nomad enemy who, despite having lost hundreds of men in every battles, are still growing in numbers.

The whole "Phoenix" prophecy should be deemed fallacious...

"BRING THE PRISONER!"

The locks on my cell chimed. It has been a week since I last saw the outside of my prison walls.

"Al Rodog will see you now." A stout bearded man, with an usual set of spectacles, stood at the door. On his left arm clung the keys to General Unin's cell.

"Now now. You mustn't think daft thoughts. You two will never make it out of here alive." He scoffed. "Name's Domeo. And I assure you if you will just cooperate, unlike the previous days, you might probably have the chance to negotiate with the Al. That's why you were sent here right? To negotiate?"

He led me out into what looked like their fortress' dungeon prison cells. The smell of dead rats reeking through every walls.

"Where are the other prisoners?" I queried.

"The Al does not take prisoners. Saves him the time and effort to transport them here".

Murderous bastard. I shouted mentally but then I reckoned, weren't we all?

The walk out the dungeon then led us to the training field (one that was twice the size as ours in the city) , across was the a rather aesthetically odd tent. I imagine this is where Al Rodog stays but Domeo took a detour to the left towards the south wing of the whole fortress. And alas, at the end of the seemingly cold corridor lies the gates of my very doom. Two colossal doors opened and with my last step I entered the hall of my final judgement.

For the first time since my brother died, I was afraid.

In the middle of the room stood the bane of my family's existence. His back against the court, his very presence excruciating. I could very well destroy him with just an abrupt toss of a sword. Just one strong dart despite the chains on my wrists. Just. One. Swift. Thro...

"What message from your Queen?" He began.

Then, it dawned upon me.

He too does not know his enemy...

I am Simbelmyne Helios, Queen of the Eastern Kingdoms of Bellan. Only daughter of the great King Eodor and sister of the late King Lerion. For centuries a war has been upon our kingdom from a once unknown enemy. Whispers of a prophecy has been going around for decades, the same prophecy that is thought to destroy this enemy. Only a true phoenix is ever capable of taming the flame.

I am Simbelmyne Queen of Bellan's Eastern Kingdoms and I am the last of the lineage of the Phoenix...

False consensus...

“No one will ever love you the way I do.”
How very condescending.

Ten words. Just ten words. Imagine the audacity. I hear that a lot from people around me and you know the sad truth behind this bullshit? Some actually believe it like it’s some kind of prophetic biblical passage from the Exodus of stupidity. Not that I’m speaking for or against this spectrum of “love-struck” swooning kids but, heck! I don’t think it takes  a drastically heinous Casanova to make an exceedingly devious damsel realize that MEN (of all shapes, sizes and sometimes maybe even, length) are in fact NOT THE SAME!

Bet you thought I was going to say otherwise, eh? All men are not the same, why?

Simple!

I haven't met ALL of 'em.

Conforming to mediocrity...

By primordial common sense, human beings are basically, gregarious. Meaning, we all form groups in order to survive. Thus, enter the eventual existence of the "alpha", the leader, the chieftain, or as what Cesar Millan suggests,"the pack leader". Yeap! So after surviving the Jurassic era, the great meteor crash that brought forth an abrupt climate change and basically the rise and fall of so-called kings with crowns that could buy a thousand parcels of barley fields, we, human beings, are now at the, well, for lack of better terms, era of placing mediocrity up on that almighty pedestal of power and money.

They say that lands are conquered by the powerful. I mean, I couldn't deny that fact since my very own country has been under foreign hands for over (let's see, 300 years under Spain, 20 under America and Japan combined, and about the same 20 years under the very Leeches of our Filipino nationality, making it) about 400 years. The world, according to bankrupted conspirators, is even under the very hands of a few prominent and filthy rich American bankers. "New World Order" as dubbed, but how is that even possible? I mean... OK! This entry will not get any more political from here!

But yes, people are powerful, they, WE, believe whatever others want us to believe and at the same time make others believe whatever nonsense we want them to believe. But I guess at the end of the day, when our all-ruling ruthless leaders are at rest, we all find the true kings and queens within ourselves. "One man can make a difference", the very personifications of such being Luther King Jr., Gandhi, and yes even Jesus Christ. So when at the end of the day, the almighty "pack leader" leads no more than himself towards the yellow brick road of greed and deceit, there will always be a Dorothy somewhere going berserk inside her blizzard-flying house ready to smash her way into that greedy little green "pack leader" witch's head!

Rapture of words.

The "Eureka moment", that moment of sudden epiphany and abrupt flow of discovery. Just as an artist brushes every paint strokes ever so impulsively, as if on a trance, to form his greatest masterpiece. The "Eureka moment". Yes, that's how I call it. The moment when an idea hits me like a big fat doobie. Stoned, ecstatic, that sudden rapture of text.
Here is where my mind speaks louder than my mouth and where pictures aren't as beautiful as when they are written.
Here is where my head is in solace and my mind is in a state of rapture. Rapture of words...

I am The Walrus and ---err--- kukukachoo!
Enjoy!
